Army Receives First M1A2 SEPv4 Tanks

The U.S. Army announced delivery of the first M1A2 SEPv4 tanks to operational units at Fort Cavazos this month, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing Abrams modernization program.

The SEPv4 variant incorporates improved color displays, enhanced ammunition data links, and updated electronic warfare capabilities. Crew members who participated in testing praised the improved situational awareness provided by the new systems.

General Dynamics Land Systems continues production at the Lima Army Tank Plant in Ohio, with deliveries scheduled through the end of the decade. Both new-build vehicles and upgrades of existing tanks will bring the fleet to SEPv4 configuration.

Army officials indicated that training programs are updating to address the new systems’ capabilities, ensuring crews can maximize the vehicle’s potential in combat.
